Inspired by the afternoon sunshine, this view is one of the many paths I’ve created to take you on a journey as you meander through my Northport woodland garden.
This garden view of Northport Harbor is inspired by my personal friend who tends her gardens on a terraced piece of land overlooking the activities of the harbor. Filled to the brim with joyous black-eyed susan’s and phlox her garden screams of summer sunshine.
Initially I began this painting with the little girls looking out through a gated arbor. As I progressed with the painting I decided to remove the gate and create this feeling of optimism and unlimited future for these little girls as they look out on the possibilities beyond their safe and beautiful enclosed garden.
Living and working in Northport is the dream come true for me. I grew up around water and still find it a necessary part of my centering. The harbor in Northport changes endlessly with the seasons and time of day. I visit it constantly to be renewed watching the tides and seasons change, the ebb and flow of life.
A special friend and gardener grows these lovely irises in her front garden. In this painting I’ve borrowed them and placed them in a meadow landscape. I always love the sensuous folds of irises which remind me of ballerina skirts twirling in the sun.
“Young Boy on the Path”
This young joyful boy is paused in the crossroads of two paths. Which direction will he take when he turns around to continue his journey? Each path offers a different experience for him at this juncture of his life.
