Today my studio was at my desk. Every once in a while, I need to review what I’ve written on the different places I publish. In rereading my writing, I found that the ABOUT pages on my website and on my Substack column, no longer reflected the work I’m currently doing. So, I spent the day reviewing and rewriting. It doesn’t seem as glamorous as the image of an artist covered in paint, but this is as important for my art as my paintings are. Writing about the intent of what I create and how I do so is critical. There is a school of thought that says, “My art speaks for itself”. I believe that artists who say that about their work use it as an excuse not to write, since writing is hard. Understanding why you create what you do and giving words to it so that others can appreciate the depth of your vision, is a very complex series of skills. Understanding why and writing about it is very hard for many artists. Since I’m fortunate to be left and right brained balanced, I enjoy both efforts, not equally, but enough so I don’t avoid what needs to be done.

I began this daily journal in February, 2026 as I prepared for my solo exhibition, “Portraits From My Garden” at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie, NY, from June 5 – September 15, 2026, my work for the group show, “Hearing Women’s Voices” at the Ceres Gallery in from June 23. to July 18, 2026, and my upcoming November 2026, solo exhibition titled, “Centering in the Midst of Chaos” in Chelsea, New York City
