This Week in the Studio – July 6 – July 12, 2026

Weekly Wrap-Up: The paph orchid painting is nearing completion, with the final stretch spent on subtle glazing and value shifts to balance the composition and push the background back without overworking it. Once signed, I moved into the wiring and documentation process I do for every finished piece, then turned to a fresh challenge: designing a garden-based installation for my November solo show at Ceres Gallery, Centering in the Midst of Chaos. After a greenhouse enclosure proved too large, I found a better-fitting alternative and started reworking its dimensions and fabric design in the studio — a fun departure into three dimensions. I also spent two days in an Akimbo workshop learning to use Claude as a true coworker for long-range project planning, which I’m excited to apply to coordinating the many moving parts of the exhibition. And in the garden, a daylily I’ve waited years to see bloomed for the first time this week.
