There are some surprises that stop you in the middle of whatever you are doing. This is what did that for me today. I was looking in my deck planters, and the sun caught these delicate strings of flowers from a volunteer grass nestled between the begonias I planted. The juxtaposition of the brilliant colors the sun was promoting on the undersides of the begonia leaves with the fine threads of an unexpected bloom just took all the stress out of my day. These are the moments of joy and the visual treats I experience each day that I walk through my garden. It is a place of miracles and wonder, as Paul Simon sang. The garden carries me through all the low points and makes my best days even better.
I began this daily journal in February, 2026 as I prepared for three exhibitions. My solo exhibition, “Portraits From My Garden” at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie, NY, on view from June 5 – September 12, 2026, and my work that was on view in the June, 2026 group show, “Raising Women’s Voices” in Chelsea, NYC.
My next solo exhibition titled “Centering in the Midst of Chaos” will be at the Ceres Gallery in Chelsea, New York City, November 3 – 28, 2026.
It will feature digital artwork, oil paintings, and a multimedia installation.
