Today I worked on retrieving the audio files I’ve captured using the Merlin Bird ID app. When I’ve been sitting on my deck, I use this app on my iPhone to ID the birds that are coming to my garden for the food and water I supply. I also save the audio files from these birds with this app. The assortment of birds I’ve identified in my garden this summer are: Eastern Wood-Pewee, Northern House Wren (who BTW raised her chicks in the birdhouse right off my deck), White-breasted Nuthatch, Gray Catbird, Bue Jay (they’re really loud), Mourning Dove (who are ground feeders and I’ve never seen at my feeders) Song Sparrow, Northern Cardinal (who look especially gorgeous with their red feathers in the winter snow), American Robin, Red-bellied and Downy Woodpeckers, Black-capped Chickadee, the gorgeous yellow, American Goldfinch and the blushing red House Finch. There were others but these are the ones who show up more often. I’m using these bird songs as the soundtrack for the video I’m making that will be on the monitor in the installation for my upcoming show. The installation is called, A Space for Centering. I’m creating a space and bringing my garden inside to help people enjoy a bit of the comfort I gain from nature in my own garden.
I began this daily journal in February, 2026 as I prepared for solo and group shows in 2026 and 2027.
Check my News & Exhibitions page for additional information.
My next solo exhibition titled “Centering in the Midst of Chaos” will be at the Ceres Gallery in Chelsea, New York City, November 3 – 28, 2026.
It will feature digital artwork, oil paintings, and a multimedia installation.
